Coin Information

The Martin Van Buren Presidential Dollar was released on November 13, 2008. This marked the eighth coin released for the Presidential Dollar series and the final coin released for the year 2008. The official launch ceremony took place in Kinderhook, New York at the Martin Van Buren National Historic Site.

Martin Van Buren Coin

The obverse of the coin was designed by Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill. It features a portrait of Martin Van Buren and the inscriptions “Martin Van Buren,” “8th President,” and the years of his presidential term “1837-1841″.

The reverse of the coin carries the rendition of the Statue of Liberty designed and sculpted by Don Everhart. This is used as the common reverse design for the entire series. The inscriptions read “United States of America” and the denomination “$1″.

The coin has edge lettering which includes the mottoes “In God We Trust” and “E Pluribus Unum” and the date and mint mark of the coin.

Martin Van Buren Coin 1837 To 1841

The Philadelphia mint produced 51,520,000 coins. The Denver mint produced 50,960,000 coins. This marked a new mintage low for the Presidential Dollar coin series. This took place after the slight uptick in production for the precious release honoring Andrew Jackson.
